Fiona has taken on the role of surrogate mother to a very young kitten.
We were cutting the grass at the cottage when the resident ‘wild’ cat brought my husband her kitten. She allowed him to pet and play with the kitten, while purring. Then, all of a sudden, she left.
So Mike brought home this 3 or 4 week old kitten for care. He was very small, the ears still not fully erect, and unable to eat solid food.
Fiona took immediate charge of the situation. Every 3 hours, after feeding him formula with a syringe, she would clean his face and lick his belly. Nap time consisted of the two sleeping in Fiona’s bed, Oreo tucked into her neck. I have never seen a dog take such good care of a baby. She even woke us up at night if we didn’t hear him squirm.
It has been 4 weeks now, and Oreo is happy and healthy. The two are inseparable and constantly play together. Oreo can be a bit rough, but never is Fiona upset.
